Students Take a Stellar Journey Through Space with Explorer Dome

Shireland Collegiate Academy was delighted to welcome Explorer Dome as part of its year 9 science focus day. The event provided students with an immersive experience, allowing them to explore the wonders of space and the universe in a unique, hands-on way.

Explorer Dome, a leading science outreach organisation based in Bristol and Stratford, is renowned for its inflatable planetarium and interactive science shows. For over 25 years, the organisation has inspired more than 80,000 students and adults annually, sparking curiosity and making complex scientific concepts both accessible and entertaining.

During the visit, students were taken on a captivating journey through the cosmos, exploring the intricate dynamics of our solar system. They learned about the birth and life cycle of the Sun, the evolution of stars, and navigated the night sky, discovering constellations inspired by the zodiac and ancient Greek mythology.

The visit was part of Shireland’s ongoing commitment to offering enriching learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom. By engaging students in such hands-on and interactive activities, the Academy aims to inspire a lifelong love of science and discovery.

Thomas Daly, Principal at Shireland Collegiate Academy, said: “We were thrilled to welcome Explorer Dome to Shireland for what was truly a unique and engaging science experience.

“For our year 9 students, this was more than just a lesson—it was an opportunity to interact with science in a tangible and memorable way. We continually strive to make learning come alive, and Explorer Dome has certainly sparked curiosity and left a lasting impression on our students.”

The day was a standout moment in the academic calendar, highlighting the value of interactive learning and the positive impact of external collaborations in delivering a well-rounded education.
