Shireland Collegiate Academy celebrated a proud moment as two of its former students, Niobe Gordon – Nosumu and Rochante Alleyne – Gallimore performed in the curtain-raiser for Rambert Dance Company’s acclaimed production of Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby.
Both dancers, who honed their skills as part of the Academy’s Arts Aptitude Programme, successfully auditioned for the opportunity to perform with one of the world’s most distinguished and diverse dance companies. Facing fierce competition and a notoriously rigorous audition process, their achievement stands as a testament to their exceptional talent and dedication.
Rambert, renowned for its boundary-pushing choreography and commitment to diversity in the arts, offered Niobe and Rochante a platform that few young dancers reach so early in their careers. Their appearance in the production not only highlighted their individual skill, but also the reflect strength of the Academy’s dance and performing arts provision.
In a show of support and community spirit, current key stage 4 and 5 students went on a trip to watch the performance. The visit also served as inspiration for the school’s aspiring performers, highlighting the possibilities that can come from passion, perseverance and opportunity.
Thomas Daly, Principal at Shireland Collegiate Academy, said: “This is a proud moment for our entire school community. Niobe and Rochante’s success speaks volumes about their commitment, creativity and resilience – qualities we deeply value at Shireland.
“To see former students shining on such a prominent stage is both moving and inspiring. They are true ambassadors of what our students can go on to achieve.”
