The Relationships and Sex Education programme at Shireland Collegiate Academy is in line with the mandatory Department for Education specification for PSHE. Our core objectives are to ensure all students have the information they need to feel respected, healthy and within the law.
To ensure students explore the idea of respect in relationships we cover the topics of families and friendships, stereotyping and what is a positive relationship and when a relationship is controlling. Health and safety topics include staying safe online and facts around pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and contraception. Our lessons on staying within the law, focus on teaching about the Equalities Act 2010, including the importance of maintaining respect for all sexualities and the law of consent.
