Shireland Sixth Form, in partnership with Aston Villa Foundation, offers a specialist post-16 football programme for students who want to combine their sports development with a high-quality education.
Students benefit from an ambitious, structured programme that allows them to train and compete at high level while studying for their A level, vocational or Level 2 courses, ensuring academic success remains at the heart of their Sixth Form experience.
Our partnership with Aston Villa Foundation
The Aston Villa Foundation is a registered charity delivering the community and outreach work of Aston Villa Football Club. Through our partnership, students will have opportunities to visit Villa and experience its elite facilities, experienced UEFA coaches and competitive opportunities linked to the Foundation’s official club programme.
The Foundation’s approach focuses on delivering, connecting, and supporting young people, helping them grow academically, socially and personally. Together, with Shireland Sixth Form, students will receive a rich, whole-student experience and personal development that supports long-term education, employability and life skills.

Students on the programme will benefit from:
- 2 training sessions per week with UEFA qualified coaches.
- Opportunities to represent Aston Villa Foundation in competitive fixtures.
- Opportunities to visit Villa and experience its elite facilities for training and classroom-based activities.
- Strength and conditioning training, including individual GPS vest performance analysis.
- Individual player development plans aligned to the Foundation’s curriculum and playing philosophy.
- Participation in the EFL CEFA, and the Birmingham County FA Wednesday College League.
- Opportunities to study for a sports leadership qualification.
This comprehensive offer allows students to pursue their sporting ambitions while developing the skills, discipline and confidence needed for future success.

Students on the programme do not have to choose between sport and gaining their post-16 qualifications. At Shireland Sixth Form, students combine high-quality football development with their choice of A level, vocational or Level 2 courses. This ensures that academic progress and personal development remain central to their Sixth Form journey.
This integrated approach keeps a wider range of future opportunities open, preparing students for progression to university, apprenticeships or employment, while allowing them to continue developing their passion for football in a professional environment.
